Xiaomi Redmi S2 Tech Specs Review

After its official release at its home country, Xiaomi has managed to bring Redmi S2 to other countries like Indonesia and India. More likely, the phone will also available globally in other countries in Asia and Europe since the company has penetrated to Spain and soon France. Specs-wise, Redmi S2 is one class lower than Redmi Note 5 while it still features a dual-camera setup at rear side. According to Steven Shi, the country manager of Xiaomi Indonesia, the phone’s selling point is its front-facing camera. The device is released to fulfill the demand of selfie phones among specific users.

The device boasts a massive 16MP camera resolution with 2.0µm image sensor as the front shooter featuring Artificial Intelligent (AI) technology to process the resulting photos along with LED flash to produce better lighting condition of low-light selfies. Moreover, the software-based beautify feature is shipped within the MIUI camera app.

On the rear side, a vertically aligned dual-camera setup can be easily found just like most of other MIUI devices with dual camera. The first rear camera has 12 MP resolution with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25μm sensor, and PDAF. The second camera has 5 MP resolution to help producing great bokeh on portrait mode. Some of included features of the camera are gyro-EIS, phase detection autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, and HDR mode. Users can capture 1080p videos @30fps easily with either front or rear camera.

What chip is planted under the hood? The phone ha Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 chipset (System on Chip / SoC) boasting Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processors and an Adreno 506 graphic processing unit (GPU). That monster specs are very awesome in middle-price phones. Moreover, it is available in two RAM and storage variants: 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB.

The device is shipped running MIUI 9.5 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Playing games and rendering common graphic would never be an issue anymore. Thanks to its powerfule CPU and Graphics.

Unfortunately, above monster specifications are supported with only 3080mAh battery power. Xiaomi claimed this will provide enough juice for the device to play videos for 10 hours, songs for 26 hours, or games for 7 hours. Users will also be able to use the phone for 25-hour talking, or 5-hour video recording in full HD resolution. In terms of its stand-by time, the battery can make it for approximately 31 days in just a single charge.

The device is produced in an aluminium body measuring 160.7 x 77.3 x 8.1 mm (6.33 x 3.04 x 0.32 in) in dimension, 170 g (6.00 oz) weight, and it has a front-glass display.

In terms of its display, users will be spoiled with its 5.99 inches screen measuring 92.6 cm2 with approximately 74.5% screen-to-body ratio. The touchscreen display is built with 720 x 1440 pixels resolution, 18:9 ratio, and ~269 pixel per inch density.

Some other features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, WiFi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, A2DP, LE, A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Infrared, FM Radio, and MicroUSB 2.0. It also features both fingerprint and face unlock recognition.

Customers can choose from the 3-available color variants: Rose Gold, Champagne Gold, and Platinum Silver.
