Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Tech Specs Review

This is the full technical details of Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 (codename ZB601KL), a budget smartphone that is being said as the best contender to Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. What exactly the beast shipped within its body? Is it really better than Redmi Note 5? Well, let’s take a look at its full specs after the jump.

For your information, the device was first announced officially by Asus on April 2018. It was first released in Indonesia, a country which Xiaomi also set the target market for its devices. The phone also makes debut in India and set to be available globally.

Now let’s get into its hardware and features specs. It is always a good habit to start the discussion from its chipset and processor. The Max Pro M1 sports Qualcomm SDM636 Snapdragon 636 SoC (System on Chip) that powers Octa-core 1.8 GHz Kryo 260 14nm microarchitecture processors. The most interesting part is the CPU is generally available in the high-end version of the chipset (like Snapdragon 800 series). Even better, the 636 SoC offers 50% less battery eater and more efficient than its high-end variants.

The SoC also comes shipped with Adreno 509 Graphics Processing Units (GPU). This piece of hardware is needed by the phone to render videos, images, games, and animation. All of those graphical display will be delivered smoothly with this GPU.

The performance will go into more wild since the Zenfone Max Pro also sports 3 variants of RAM and storage capacity (ROM): 3GB/32GB, 4GB/64GB, and 6GB/64GB. Isn’t that insane to have 6GB of RAM on a budget phone? Can you imagine how sleek its performance is? Additionally, the phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo but it will also receive the next generation of Android (the Android P).

Now let’s move on the discussion to its camera setup. The device, just like its competitor, is equipped with a dual-camera setup as its main camera on the rear side. The main camera setup consists of 13 MP 1.12µm sensor with f/2.2 lens aperture and  + 5 MP 1.12µm sensor with f/2.4 lens aperture. Moreover, the 6GB/64GB variant has a different setup which is 16 MP + 5 MP. All of the cameras feature phase detection autofocus and of course accompanied with LED flash. In terms of video recording, the cameras can shoot 2160p videos @30fps or 1080p videos @30fps and @60fps slow motion (slowmo).

Need to take a selfie? No worries! The front camera has 8MP 1.0µm sensor with f/2.2 lens aperture. Again, the highest variant (4/64) has a better front-facing camera which is 16MP. All of the variants have front-facing LED flash to help users get better lighting condition when taking selfies.

The phone has 5.99 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M of colors. Precise-wise, the screen is 93.1 cm2 with approximately ~77.0% screen-to-body ratio. It is capable to deliver a full HD display at 1080 x 2160 pixels in 18:9 ratio at crystal crisp view (~402 ppi density).

Coming at its best part of the hardware that overpowers its competitors: the battery capacity. The phone boasts a 5,000 mAh battery capacity to supply the hardware with enough juice for at least 3 days. It is a Non-removable Li-Po battery though. It is also claimed capable delivering 12-hours non-stop gaming experience.

Dimension-wise, the device is measured 159 x 76 x 8.5 mm (6.26 x 2.99 x 0.33 in) and it has weight of 180 g (6.35 oz).
