Xiaomi has recently rolled out an anti-rollback protection mechanism for Redmi Note 5 Pro / Global / China (codename Whyred). It means that once updated to a newer version, the device will not be able to run any previous versions of MIUI ROM. This feature is basically available in the Android 8.1 Oreo framework. However, it is up to the manufacturer whether to implement this mechanism or not. Xiaomi seems to start using this protection on the Redmi Note 5 as the first device to equip such a feature. Xiaomi has followed up its last year’s Redmi 5A phone with the latest Redmi 6 and 6A in 2018. Keeping the same price bracket, the brand has managed to improve a lot of things in this year’s iteration of the 5A lineup. Key things that differentiate the phone include the new 18:9 display. After its official release at its home country, Xiaomi has managed to bring Redmi S2 to other countries like Indonesia and India. More likely, the phone will also available globally in other countries in Asia and Europe since the company has penetrated to Spain and soon France.
